Willem-Jan van Loon will provide visitors with a compelling story regarding the role of Additive Manufacturing in the industry 4.0. He will explain how manufacturers can benefit from combining 3D printing, big data, the internet of things and cyber-physical systems. In order to set the stage, the topic will be approached by providing a brief explanation of what exactly is the industry 4.0, giving insights of where it stands at the moment. An analysis of the role of 3D printing on the on-going industrial revolution will be presented next to success stories supported by a comparison between 3D printing and traditional manufacturing technologies. The connection between 3D printing and the IoT in industrial environments will be explained into detail. Willem-Jan will focus on the benefits and what has to happen for it to be widely adopted as well as how combining them with big data will have major impacts on maximizing efficiency on cyber-physical systems.
